This is a 100MB GeoTIFF served with ArcIMS alone. Large datasets of GeoTIFFs are unwieldy in ArcIMS, and typically require pyramiding. This demonstration only shows one GeoTIFF so that the server is responsive enough for demonstrations. In large scale implementation the raster imagery is turned off in wide (zoomed out) views; with raster imagery turned on, response times become too long, frustrating your users.                                                      

This is an 8GB MrSID file (160GB raw) served by ArcIMS with Express Server providing the raster handling. Note how quickly you can pan and zoom around the dataset. The best news? Because Express Server uses wavelet imagery, the portions of the image delivered to your users are just a fraction of their original size, in most cases under 100KB!
